My Modern Italian Music Playlist

This post is inspired by Musica Toronto @musicatoronto on Instagram, who preach the importance of appreciating the evolving art of Italian music, so here are some of my favourites! Andiamo!

Here are my current Top 5 Modern Italian songs in no particular order.

5. Superclassico - Ernia

“E mi dimenticherò, e tu ti dimenticherai, come tutto tra noi non fosse successo mai."

This song never gets old for me. I can hear the original singer sing it, I hear many covers, I use it in my own warm up on my instruments, I just adore it. And the lyrics are undeniably relatable, no matter who you are, but specifically the bridge to the end of the song.

4. Non Ci Sei Più - Mameli

“Davvero non ti servo più, è stato bello scoprire che non sei uguale a me."

There is so much passion in this song, it just makes you want to scream it out loud. It has a lo-fi vibe to it which I usually don't opt for, but this song just really spoke to me and like the last one, I can never get sick of it. I would love to hear a complete acoustic version of this song as well, fingers crossed.

3. Rapide - Mahmood

“Questa notte mi perdonerò, nelle tue rapide non cadrò"

At first, I'm going to be honest, I didn't like Mahmood. I thought he was overhyped and his first song from Sanremo 2019 was overplayed and made me sick of it. Then this song came out and I can now say, I was wrong about him. I would have preferred this song as his Sanremo 2019 single, because it is just so catchy and meaningful, still relevant to the public as it matches to the modern vibe.

2. Good Times - Ghali

“Mi chiedono in che lingua sogno, che domanda."

This is such a fun song, it has such a fun vibe with some lyrics that can make you giggle a bit, like many Ghali songs do. His songs all work somehow even if they don't completely make sense and seem all over the place. That being said, I still love it. This song as well as Ninna Nanna and Cara Italia are amazing and make me feel like dancing.

1. Zitti e Buoni - Måneskin

“Io ho scritto pagine e pagine, ho visto sale, poi lacrime."

Let's take a moment to congratulate the Italian band Måneskin on their Sanremo and Eurovision wins this year, with this song. Normally this genre of music isn't my favourite, not my go to, but something about Måneskin makes me feel like a bad ass and I love it.

So, my friends, I hope this inspires you to go do some research and find modern Italian music that fits your preference! Check out Musica Toronto on Instagram for the latest in Italian music and new releases.

Vi voglio bene,

Melissa
