My Favourite Songs: May 2021
Here are some of the songs I have been playing on repeat this month!
These songs didn't necessarily release in the month of May, or even in 2021, but they are the songs that I have found recently or have rediscovered after some time. These songs are also in English, Italian, and Spanish.
Hasta Que Me Olvides - Diego Boneta
"Y me rompa en mil pedazos, continuar mi gran teatro, hasta que me olvides."
Okay, so I know Luis Miguel originally sang this song some years ago, but since the Luis Miguel The Series season 2 came out, I fell back in love with the series, the songs and the actor who plays Luis Miguel, Diego Boneta. He sings all the songs himself and his voice is just incredible, just like LuisMi himself.
your sky - Lionfield
"I want to scream, my voice is gone, if I can't love you. I just cannot love anymore."
This song will automatically make you think of that person in your life, that you want to love and if you can't, you won't love at all. This song gives a certain vibe to it, with it's uplifting beat and heartfelt lyrics. I love listening to this on a drive up north to cottage country, or just sitting in bed, reading; it's perfect for any time or any place. Plus, the artists are extremely talented, so that just makes it even better ;)
Io Non Abito Al Mare - Francesca Michielin
"Voglio vedere se mi stai ascoltando."
I haven't listened to this song since about 2017 if I'm not mistaken, and really, I listen now to this song for the single line that I quoted up above, "Voglio vedere se mi stai ascoltando." which in English means, "I want to see if you are listening to me." and the way she sings it, sounds like a plea, it just gives goosebumps.
Il Tempo Di Morire - Lucio Battisti
"Lo so che ami un'altro, ma che ci posso fare, io sono un disperato, perché ti voglio amare."
Now, this is a pretty old song, but recently I rediscovered it and I'm so glad I did because as a kid hearing this on CHIN Radio (Italians in the GTA, you all remember this station, I'm sure.) I didn't think too much of the words, but now I'm older and these lyrics can resonate and you can understand the desperation in not only the lyrics but in Battisti's voice. Also, in this song you can hear someone in the background saying "Un'altro giro!" which in English means, "Another round!"
all we'll ever be (a dream ruined indefinitely) - GION
"As the days go by, I'm forgetting what you felt like."
I'm gonna get right to it and say that this beat is AMAZING. It's got a cool, catchy vibe to it with lyrics that anyone can relate to. Personally, during the pandemic it's been hard not to feel isolated, so the line that I put above, really hit me because it's not just a memory, it's something we are all living.
So Close - John McLaughlin
"So close to reaching that famous happy end, almost believing this was not pretend."
Of course I'm a Disney fan, and this movie and it's soundtrack are so underrated! When this movie came out, I watched it all the time and in spirit of the second one being announced, I decided to revisit one of my favourite Disney songs. The lyrics, the melody, and the magic of it just makes me feel like a kid again watching Enchanted from the DVD I rented at Blockbuster.
Torna A Casa - Måneskin
"Che c'ho una frase scritta in testa, ma non l'ho mai detta, perché la vita senza te non può essere perfetta."
This is one of the newer songs I found, since the band won Sanremo 2021 and Eurovision 2021 representing Italy, I decided to check them out and this song was one of my favourites. The band themselves give me an old school rock vibe with a modern twist, and you can definitely hear in their music that their double win this year was very much deserved.
And so, friends, that concludes my favourite songs this month, I hope you found some new music to enjoy as well!
Vi voglio bene,
Melissa
