Taking The Ice by Jennifer Comeaux: Book Review

What a perfect finale to an amazing series. I loved every book in the Ice Series, and this finale left me satisfied and at peace with all of our characters. That being said, I'll be going through some of the pros and cons of Taking The Ice, with minor spoilers ahead. P.S. Thank you again to Jennifer Comeaux who very kindly sent me Ebooks of the whole series, I loved them all and will always refer back to them for inspiration in my own writing as well as when I just need a comfort read; you're the best Jennifer!

Pros of Taking The Ice by Jennifer Comeaux

Character Development

Stephanie at the beginning of this series was someone I didn't love to hate; I just hated her. She was an awful sister and skating partner to Josh as well as a mean girl to everyone who crossed her path - especially Courtney. In the third instalment of the series, we see Stephanie really showed growth in the sense that she was more affectionate and understanding to her brother as she distanced herself from their mother, and she even showed more kindness to Courtney, doing something huge for her close to the end of the book...you'll have to read to see what I mean. I was happy that although Josh's relationship with his parents isn't at all what it should be, that at least he has his sister.

Josh and Courtney

These two are always under the pro category for me. I love their relationship; they respect, support and listen to each other like they should, but it's just so interesting to see in their early-mid twenties that they're so emotionally mature. Courtney has been waiting for something big to happen between her and Josh, and although she's slightly concerned it'll never happen, she's content with the way they live their lives together and that she's with the perfect guy for her. Josh is ready to live out all of his personal and professional dreams with Courtney by his side, the way he'd always hoped it would be. They have such a lovely story together, it really does make me feel light and airy after reading about their relationship; they're one of my favourite book couples.

No Loose Ends

I cannot stand when book series end with tons of unanswered questions. This book left no stone unturned, and we got to see every characters happily ever after; the perfect - and expected - ending to a romance novel. We got to see Stephanie chase a career, Emily, Sergei would continue raising their lovely children, Josh and Courtney have a bright future ahead of them, Liza would continue to pursue her skating pursuits, and so forth. Readers even get to see what happens to Josh and his relationship with his parents; although it's not a happy ending, it's a clean and tied up ending. It makes me kind of sad that this series is over, because I really did fall in love with the characters and the whole world that this takes place in; however, I hope somehow these characters come back as coaches for example, or anything that brings Josh and Courtney back into the picture somehow.

Cons of Taking The Ice by Jennifer Comeaux

Josh's Parents

These two were the bane of my existence. No matter the successful turn of their son's life, they couldn't find it in them to be civil and support him, or at best, leave him in peace as he asked for countless times. He deserved so much better than them, but again, it does make me feel better that his happily ever after was with Courtney who loves him more than his parents ever could. Again, it's not really a con because I didn't like the writing; the author did a great job at focusing the readers anger away from Stephanie and to Josh's parents.

Again, this whole series was fantastic, I really enjoyed reading it and can't wait to reread them when I need a little boost! They're fun, romantic, intricate and the skating aspect is just perfection; never have I read a sports romance where there's been so much accuracy and detail about the sport. Comeaux really did her research and that alone makes her characters and their world believable.
