Interview with "Lu Sicilianu Raggiatu", Viral Italo-Canadian Comedian

Ciao amici! I had the privilege of interviewing the viral comedian, Lu Sicilianu Raggiatu, about his success, heritage, inspiration and more!

What inspired you to start making videos as "Lu Sicilianu Raggiatu"?

My inspiration was the joy to make people laugh and smile. Also the fact that the younger generation of Italians were losing there traditions, so I wanted to show them how good we have / had it and to not lose the language or our traditions.

Where in Sicily are you and your family from?

We are from the beautiful part of Agrigento, Canicattì in Sicily of course.

What is a wish you have for your career as Lu Sicilianu Raggiatu?

I wish I can reach the stars with this comic character and touch as many people with laughter and smiles. I want to tour the world, be on the every stage, every screen, and lighten up the world, as this world needs it right now.

What should people watching your videos know about them/you?

They should know that if you watch you should watch with a light heart, don’t take life so serious, we all grew up this way, one way or another. Yes I over embellish a bit, but that’s comedy. I just a guy trying to make people laugh and stir up memories for the Gen x’ers lol.

Where do you get the ideas to do these videos?

That’s easy IT’S MY LIFE! Lol. I think it’s all our lives in some sort of way, that’s why it’s so funny, it readable.

I’ve seen that you’ve been in some movies, can you talk about that experience?

Yes, I have started in two movies which I can’t speak too much about as they will be premiering at TIFF hopefully this year. This journey has taken me to so many opportunities from movies, to commercials, to brand ambassador, and more.

This one had me absolutely rolling on the floor, laughing for a solid 15 minutes after this video was over.

I had to show this one to my dad, it's his life story ahah.

Watching Lu Sicilianu Raggiatu's videos have become a household staple, my dad asking every time a new video is uploaded, "Did you guys see it yet? Let's watch it!" and the entire family is in stitches laughing so hard. We have even started using some of his jokes in our everyday conversations, like whenever my Nonna says, "Goodbye Jack", we go "Who is this Jack?" or now every time we see a Portuguese flag, we start singing "Portuguese Lover".
